“Change will have to be imposed on Israel from the outside”: Gideon Levy

Well known Israeli journalist Gideon Levy was in Ottawa on March 23rd, part of a Canada-wide tour organized by Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME). “Life is too good in Israel,” he said. “Israelis have no reason to change their ways. Will Baird’s resignation make a difference in Canada’s policy toward Israel/Palestine?

One of John Baird’s last acts as foreign minister was to sign a MOU with Avigdor Lieberman, committing both countries to fight the BDS movement. Will Baird’s resignation significantly change Canada’s foreign policy toward the Middle East? Perhaps, but I don’t think so. Read why.

Has the mainstream media boycotted the Jeff Halper tour?

CBC did not do any coverage of Jeff Halper’s tour. Nor were they interested in interviewing him. The same goes for CTV, TVO or any of the major media outlets. Why?

What do the horrific killings in Paris have to do with public support for Palestinian human rights in Canada?

Is this really what we mean by freedom of speech? Or is it thinly veiled islamophobia hiding behind freedom of speech? The recent terrorist attacks in Paris have been horrific. What do they have to do with defending human rights for Palestinians in Canada? Quite a lot, I think. (more…)
