Toronto Palestine Film Festival starts on line September 23 – Six days of films and special events

The Toronto Palestine Film Festival (TPFF) was conceived in 2008 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Al-Nakba. It is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization dedicated to bringing Palestinian cinema, music, cuisine and art to Toronto area audiences. Now, because of COVID, it has gone on-line, making a wide variety of interesting films available to people outside the GTA. Read more…

Two Canadian Jews reflect on the Holocaust… and on its consequences for their families, for Jews and for Palestinians

In a powerful book written in 2006, Avram Burg, a former speaker of the Israeli Knesset, argued that Jews have been so traumatized by the horrific events of the Holocaust that they have lost the ability to trust the world around them. Burg used his own family history–his parents were Holocaust survivors–to suggest Jews need to move on and eventually live in peace with their Arab neighbors and feel comfortable in the world at large. That fear still haunts most Jews in Canada today. But not all. Here are candid recollection on the Holocaust, anti-Semitism and Zionism by two Canadian Jews who are members of the Advisory Council of the Ottawa Forum on Israel/Palestine. Watch and learn.

Should the Canadian government allow our military to consider buying more Israeli drones?

The Canadian military started leasing Israeli attack drones in 2017 for use in Afghanistan. It is now considering buying more. By all accounts, the Israeli drones are VERY effective. They should be, they have been “field tested” – including on Palestinian civilians. They can spy in real time, intercept telecommunications, launch unexpected missile strikes… and at all times are very useful to terrorize a population. Sounds great… Read more…

What a recent CBC report reveals about Israel today… and what it keeps hidden…

For years Palestinians have been sneaking across Israel’s “security barrier” risking arrest to find work, much like Mexican immigrants who try to slip into the USA. In the last few weeks, that trickle has become a flood. A CBC report paints it as a marvellous mixing, but it glosses over the underlying discrimination and injustice. Read a special guest column.
