Universities across North America are responding to a new thirst for knowledge and information about Israel/Palestine. In a development reminiscent of antivietnam war “teach-ins”, many are offering non credit lectures. In Ottawa, after Carleton University cancelled a popular course in response to what it called “complaints from the Jewish community”, the Ottawa Forum on Israel/Palestine filled the gap. Canada joined the U.K., France, and nine other countries who announced they would ban Israeli goods produced in the occupied Palestinian territories as a way to pressure Israel’s government to crack down on settler violence. OFIP asks the Ministers why we don’t also ban the settlers who are committing the violence. Read our letter.

In a historic ruling, the International Court of Justice declared the 53 year long Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory including West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem, ILLEGAL. It makes unambiguous specific demands on Israel. It also demands that other countries, like Canada which are members of the court, move immediately to enforce Israeli compliance with the court’s findings. Read more…..

On Dec 12, Israeli soldiers raided the Freedom Theatre in Jenin, a renowned cultural institution whose mission is to promote justice, equality and self-determination for Palestinians. Two of the theater’s producers, Ahmed Tobasi and Mustafa Sheta, were taken away by Israeli troops. Their whereabouts are still unknown.
