A painful message to Canadians from a Palestinian English teacher trapped in the “big cage of Gaza”

IMG_0240While in Gaza recently, I spent a half a day doing an English class with about 20 young Palestinian women enrolled in a secretarial science course offered by the Near East Council of Churches – DSPR/Gaza. It was a great opportunity for me to have an informal and frank talk about their lives and hopes for the future. After the class, I got a poignant letter of thanks from their teacher. Is Trudeau already looking for “wiggle room” on his call for Gaza inquiry? It looks like it.

Only a few days ago, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was aggressively calling for an independent investigation into the killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. Trudeau now at centre of intense debate over Israel’s shooting of unarmed Palestinian demonstrators

For weeks, Prime Minister Trudeau maintained silence on the rising number of deaths of unarmed Palestinian protesters in Gaza despite increasing calls for him to say something. On May 16, he finally spoke out calling for an independent investigation. Immediately, he was attacked by the Israel lobby which wants to avoid an investigation and instead just blame Hamas.  It’s now a political tug of war. Read more. (more…)

Is the Canadian and international media starting to change how it reports the conflict in Gaza?/ Israeli sniper wounds a Canadian doctor

tarek loubani injuredDr. Tarek Loubani, a Canadian medical doctor, was one of the hundreds shot by Israeli snipers on Monday. Will this influence how the Canadian public sees the carnage in Gaza? There was already some evidence that the Israeli killings of unarmed protesters was starting to influence how mainstream publications are reporting the events.
