What happens when Canadian media and the Canadian government ignore the ongoing killing of Palestinians in Gaza?
Eleven year old Naser Musabeh was the latest (and the youngest) Palestinian protester to be killed in Gaza by Israeli snipers. Six others were killed and over 90 injured by rifle fire on Friday. It’s hard to imagine the IDF thought that Naser represented a threat to Israel. The killings were all but ignored by Canadian media. And not mentioned at all by Canadian government officials. Any Canadian who tries to defend human rights for Palestinians knows that they run the risk of being called “anti-Semitic”. But when Prime Minister Trudeau (l) called out Dimitri Lascaris (r) a well known Palestinian human rights activist, accusing him of “vile anti-Semitic smears” a lot of people took notice. Canada would like to join the UN Security Council, one of the most prestigious and exclusive clubs in the world. To show that it is “back in the game”, Canada has followed UN recommendations to put sanctions on 19 countries.
