This week’s UN conference on the Question of Palestine, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, has been denounced by Israel and the USA but has been gladly received by the PLO and Mahmood Abbas. Many are concerned that the conference could divert attention away from the most urgent issue – how to stop the blockade and the genocide in Gaza.

The Trump administration has formally requested that the U.N. remove Francesca Albanese from her role as the special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, citing her “virulent antisemitism and support for terrorism”. British rapper Bob Vylan set off a firestorm last week at a major outdoor rock festival in the UK by adding his own chant to the now familiar “Free Free Palestine”. He surprised the audience by shouting “Death, death to the IDF”. Tens of thousands of festival goers, many waving Palestinian flags, roared their approval. A debate has erupted in the UK.
