OFIP was invited to appear before the Senate Standing Committe on Human Rights which is undertaking a study on the rise of antisemitism in Canada. We told the Senate that we think that fears over antisemitism are overblown. Canadians are not antisemitic. But 2/3 of Canadians think that what Israel – a Jewish State – is doing in Gaza is “morally outrageous”. The Israel lobby is deliberately conflating opposition to the actions of Israel with antisemitism. Read our written submission and watch our 7 minute video.

On July 30th Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada would recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly. Recognition didn’t change much on the ground, of course. The genocide continued unabated, and Israeli settlers in the West Bank continued to attack and kill Palestinians. But back in Canada there are indications, it has made a difference. A crack has now appeared in the Israel lobby’s door. Read more.

A recent survey by Angus Reid shows that Canadian public opinion is turning inexorably against Israel. Whether the question is on acknowledging the genocide in Gaza, on recognizing the Palestinian State, or whether Israel is deliberately starving the Palestinians, the trend is consistent.
