Canada’s new Minister of Global Affairs, Chrystia Freeland, has finally spoken out about Israel – well sort of. Despite many recent Israeli violations of Palestinian human rights both in the occupied territories and inside Israel itself, a recent announcement seems to show her main preoccupation lies with promoting an increasingly improbable two state solution. Leading Palestinian legislator shot by Israeli police during demonstration in southern Israel

Ayman Odeh, the soft spoken Palestinian Israeli who is the leader of the “Arab Joint List” in the Israeli Knesset (parliament) was shot by police during a demonstration in Southern Israel. He was hit by at least one rubber coated bullet and perhaps another one which struck his head. Odeh was treated in hospital and later released. Odeh was in Canada last year for meetings with Canadian Parliamentarians. Read more.  (more…)

UNRWA (the UN’s relief agency for Palestinian refugees) runs schools and medical clinics for millions of Palestinians. Prime Minister Harper cut off Canada’s financial contribution in 2012. Mr. Trudeau just reinstated it. The Israel lobby is angry and wants it reversed. Read more… (more…)
