As the expulsion of Palestinians continues, Canadians join Professor Ilan Pappe to mark “Nakba Day” on May 15th

The Etzl Museum on Jaffa beach commemorates the “Liberation of Jaffa”. According to the museum’s educational displays, under leader Menachem Begin (later Prime Minister of Israel), the Etzl militia forces started driving out Arabs on November 30, 1947, the day after the UN partition vote. By that vote, however, Jaffa was not supposed to be part of the new Jewish State at all. To this day, Israel continues to expel Palestinians from East Jerusalem. Canadian Voices for Palestinian Rights is organizing a webinar on May 15th with Israeli Professor Ilan Pappe to commemorate the Nakba Day…. Read more and sign up…

Human Rights Watch calls on UN member states, including Canada, to “impose targeted sanctions (…) against Israeli officials responsible for grave international crimes, including apartheid and persecution”

After many years of careful research, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has come out with a strong report condeming Israel for its “Crimes of apartheid and persecution” against Palestinians. Palestinians have been saying this for many years but up to now, few have been listening. This report comes on the heels of a similar report by B’tselem, an Israeli organization and a determination by the International Criminal Court to investigate Israeli actions. Canada has yet to comment. In a video interview, CTIP talks with HRW’s Canada director Farida Deif. Read more and watch the interview.

“Mr. Trudeau – what values, exactly, do we share with Israel?” – asks retired Canadian M.D. and armed forces veteran

Young Jewish fanatics paraded through East Jerusalem on April 23rd yelling “death to Arabs” in a demonstration that the liberal American Jewish group If Not Now labelled a Jewish “pogrom”. Over 100 Palestinians were hurt. The Israeli government stood by – even protecting the fanatics. In an open letter to Prime MinisterJustin Trudeau, a Canadian doctor asks why Trudeau keeps on repeating that we share “common values” with Israel. Read more…

Prime Minister Trudeau claims Canada and Israel “share common values”. Do those values include the right to expel people from their own homes?

Israeli courts have given the go ahead to expel many Palestinian families from homes they have lived in for nearly 70 years. They will get no compensation and will be out on the street unless the international community intervenes. This is not an eviction for any public purpose other than to increase Jewish domination in Jerusalem. Many European countries have objected strenuously. Canada, which says it shares “common values” with Israel, is silent once again. Read more…

Prime Minister Trudeau (again) confuses his support for Canadian Jews with unconditional support for Israel: claims Israel and Canada share “common values”

On April 14 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent out a video message congratulating Israel on its Independence Day. But Trudeau’s message seemed to be principally aimed at Canadian Jews. “Canada will continue to condemn BDS and any movement which attacks our Israeli friends, Jewish Canadians and the values we share”, he said. Trudeau conflates his support for Canadian Jews with his unflinching support of Israel, ignoring its repeated violation of Palestinian human rights. I sent a letter to the Prime Minister pointing out that the two things are quite different. Read more…
