EU countries protested Israeli demolition of Palestinian homes in Khirbet Humsah, (above) on 3 Nov. 2020. But the Trudeau Government looked the other way. Our official policy opposes the Israeli occupation of the West Bank. But our real policy appears to be something else. Recent UN report on human rights in Occupied Territories contains a message for Canada

Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Netanyahu celebrate the signature of the “modernised” Canada Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) in 2019. It directly contravenes a Security Council resolution which is mandatory for all UN members. The most recent report of the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories has made several recommendations aimed at countries like Canada which are ignoring UNSC resolutions. If he had not been assassinated, would Yitzhak Rabin really have made peace? “Not likely” say Palestinian-Canadian analysts

The famous Rabin-Arafat handshake under Clinton’s watchful eye in 1993. Was the Oslo deal really a basis for lasting “peace” or was it a US backed trap for the PLO leadership? Some Israelis still venerate Rabin, claiming that if he had not been assassinated by a right wing Zionist, the Oslo agreements would have brought about peace based on a two state solution.
