Dr. Tarek Loubani entranced a sell-out crowd of about 300 in Ottawa on January 14th with his graphic descriptions of working as an emergency doctor in Gaza under fire from Israeli army snipers. These two Palestinian children died in a housefire in Hebron, in the Occupied West Bank after Israeli military prevented a Palestinian fire truck from crossing a checkpoint. Palestinian American Ali Abunimah told a capacity crowd at St. Paul University in Ottawa that Israel should be understood as a “settler-colonial” state, like Canada or South Africa. Abunimah believes that the only answer that would bring peace to the Israel/Palestine conflict is to recognize what has happened and move toward one democratic state with equal rights for all.
