An Israeli Canadian returns to visit the Israel he left 48 years ago. He didn’t like what he found.

Jake Javanshir is a member of the Unitarian Congregation in Toronto. In 1970 as a young man he left Israel for Canada. Last June he returned for the first time to visit family and look around. Can Israel ever stop being a “fortress” and become a “home”?

In a public interview last April in Toronto, famed Israeli author David Grossman (r.) lamented to CBC’s Michael Enright: “Israel is a fortress, but not yet a home”. A Palestinian Canadian, whose parents were expelled from Mandate Palestine in 1948, suggests that Jews in Israel can only feel at “home” when Israel acknowledges the refugees’ tragedy it created in 1947/48 and accepts equality. Open invitation to PC leader Andrew Scheer: come to our public meeting on March 22 to learn more about Jerusalem

New PC leader Andrew Scheer recently announced he supports Donald Trump’s move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. He said that if he were elected, he would also consider moving Canada’s embassy there. A few days ago, we sent a letter to Mr. Scheer inviting him to our public meeting in Ottawa on March 22 to discuss his decision. We are waiting for an answer. Read more.
